Youth Development Programs
Feel like learning a new skill? Want to do your bit to help save the world or perhaps you would just like to make some new friends? Problem solved! Just join a community or interest group.
This section highlights developmental programs and community groups available to young Territorians. Youth Development Programs target different ages and focus on different areas. Some of these areas include adventure, arts/theatre, communication, community service, leadership, peer development, self-esteem, sport, survival skills and team work.
Whilst every effort has been made to provide current and accurate information on the programs included here, prospective participants are encouraged to contact the program organisers directly. Contact details have been provided for each program. If the program you are interested in is not located within your area, please do not hesitate to contact the organisation to find out whether similar programs are conducted in your area.

Alice Springs Town Council Youth Action Group - Through discussion, planning and executing youth initiatives we will positively contribute to our community through increasing awareness of and addressing youth issues and concerns, providing opportunities for community involvement and facilitating consultation between young people and the community.
Australian Army Cadets - The Australian Army Cadets is a personal development program for young people, conducted by the Australian Army in cooperation with the community, which is designed to benefit the nation by developing the individual, their community and the Australian Army.
Australian Air Force Cadets - The AAFC will teach you valuable life skills and will help you develop qualities including leadership, self reliance, confidence, teamwork and communication.
Australian Navy Cadets -The ANC is a leading provider of youth development experiences. Navy Cadets reflect the Royal Australian Navy's values of honour, honesty, courage, integrity and loyalty. Cadets and ANC Staff are highly valued in their communities for their commitment to good citizenship and in many areas they are the only uniformed presence to promote Navy as a strong community partner.

City of Darwin Youth Advisory Committee - The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is a group of 15 young people aged between 12 and 25 years. Together they have a range of backgrounds and experiences and are connected to local high schools, community and youth agencies, education, training, employment and recreation groups. Council's Youth Services staff and two City of Darwin Aldermen round out the membership.
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award - The Award is a leading structured (non-formal education) youth development program, empowering all young Australians between age 14 to 25 to explore their full potential regardless of their location or circumstance. The Award is a fully inclusive program and has no social, political, or religious affiliations.
Girl Guides NT - As a Guide you are a member of an organisation with over 10 million members and you can become involved in a wide range of exciting activities, from outdoor challenges and camping, learning new skills, to community action projects and international travel.
Headspace Darwin - If you are a young person aged between 12-25 and need information relating to general mental health, physical health, work & study and drugs & alcohol, this section is designed for you.
Headspace Central Australia - If you are a young person aged between 12-25 and need information relating to general mental health, physical health, work & study and drugs & alcohol, this section is designed for you.
IMPACT - IMPACT is a leadership program for school students in the Northern Territory and the Kimberley. IMPACT focuses on social action, skill development, and positive networks, empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to be active community members and role models while assisting them to complete Yr 12.
Junior Police Rangers - The scheme develops the leadership skills of young people by providing activities not generally available at schools. It is designed to boost a range of practical skills (from public speaking to orienteering) and self esteem amongst the participants, enabling them to pass these skills on to their peers.
Lions Youth Club - As a member of Lions Australia you will experience a number of personal benefits including leadership skills, a sense of self worth and purpose, business skills, networking opportunities and lifelong friendships.
Multicultural Youth NT (MyNT) - MyNT is a youth-led organisation which envisions a united body of empowered young people, equipped with skills and resources to make their ideas reality.
Northern Territory Youth Round Table - The Northern Territory Youth Round Table (Round Table) is a direct communication avenue between young Territorians and the Northern Territory Government. The Round Table consists of 16 members who are aged 15 to 25 years. Round Table members are representative of the geographic, cultural and ethnic diversity in the Northern Territory.
Palmerston Youth Inspiring Group (YIP) - Youth Inspiring Palmerston (YIP) is a diverse group of young people aged 12-25 from the Palmerston region committed to making Palmerston a better place for young people and the whole community.
Scouts NT - Scouts Australia provides young Aussies aged 6 to 25 with fun and challenging opportunities to grow through adventure. Scouts Australia has almost 70,000 members, making it the largest youth movement in the nation. No other organisation offers such a diverse range of activities for young people across such a wide range of ages!
St John Ambulance Cadets - Being a St John Cadet provides young people with the opportunity to attend camps and social activities. Cadets are also able to gain practical life experiences and have the opportunity to go to Cadet friendly events and may receive National Awards based on participation in the organisation.
United Nations Youth NT - UN Youth Northern Territory is a territory-wide division of a national youth-oriented organisation endeavouring to expand knowledge of human rights, global politics and the structure of the United Nations and increase awareness and participation in international issues and political processes, as it becomes ever important for the youth of today to have our voice heard in the rapidly integrated and globalised world. UN Youth is run for and by young people, and has been broadening youth horizons for almost 50 years.
Young Endeavour Youth Scheme - Are you 16-23 years old? Apply now to join the Young Endeavour crew. The ballot is now open for applications, eligible young Australians can apply for Youth Development voyages sailing through to December 2017. Voyage berths are allocated by ballot, and through our Scholarship Program.
Youth For Christ - YFC Northern Territory has a keen focus on adventure-based programs; utilising experiential learning techniques that develop self-esteem and leadership qualities. The NT team value the growth of relationships and seeing young people achieve their potential. In past years valuable time has been spent in Juvenile Detention Centres supporting and encouraging those in remand and post-release situations. We are currently looking for someone to head up this area so this ministry can continue.
Young Professionals Network NT (YPN NT) - The Young Professionals Network, Northern Territory (YPN NT) is a knowledge sharing network that provides opportunities for young and 'young at heart' Territorians to meet, exchange ideas and enhance their career.
